
Waşûkanî
A women’s economic bakery project that provides a source of income for the displaced women of Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ayn) living in the Til Nesri village of Tell Tamer. Three Arab and Kurdish women workers bake a traditional flatbread called lavash.
Emîra Mihêmîd Micris, a woman working in the project who was displaced from Sêrekaniyê by Turkey’s occupation said, “With the support of the committee, we started our project to bake flatbread. We are three women, one of us makes dough, and the other spreads the dough. I bake the bread.” “We like baking bread. Instead of sitting at home, we earn a living and serve our people. We work from 5 AM to noon.”
The project was established by the Kongra Star Economy Committee to provide employment to displaced women. Kongra Star continues to provide both financial and psychological support.
