A Kongra Star women’s agricultural co-operative project part supported by Water for Rojava, this project spans across 36 hectares of land West outside Hasakah City, in proximity to a refugee camp for internally displaced people (IDPs).
The project began in the summer of 2022 but work was already well underway when the Water for Rojava Delegation visited the site in October 2022. Two wells had already been drilled at 250 metres and two more were about to be drilled. The plan is to form a women’s agricultural cooperative to work the land, prioritising women who are struggling, including those living in the nearby IDP camp, to give them a livelihood and collective work. They will also build a storage space and housing for one or two families who will be guardians of the land. The house was already largely completed in October 2022.
