Kardelen Women’s House of the Rezan (Bağlar) Municipality in Amed (Diyarbakır) has been reactivated since the DEM Party won the municipality in the local elections in Turkey on March 31.
Kardelen Women’s House of the Rezan (Bağlar) Municipality located in the Kaynartepe neighborhood of Amed (Diyarbakır) aiming at providing support to women was unable to take new applications after the government removed the elected mayors from office and replaced them with state-appointed trustees in 2016. The house has been reactivated since the Peoples’ Democracy and Equality Party (DEM Party) won the municipality in the local elections held in Turkey on March 31,2024.
The first thing that the employees of the Kardelen Women’s House did was to reach all women in the neighborhood by visiting home by home. They heard the demands of women and then opened a new playground for children. They organize many educational activities for children at the playground.
Then, they opened literacy and hairdressing courses in accordance with the demands of women. Each course lasts three months. A cooking course is also among the demands of women. The course will be opened in the neighborhood for women after the preparations are completed.
Birgül Harman, Coordinator at the Kardelen Women’s House, told us that they performed home visits twice a week. The women’s house also provides psychological and pedagogical support to women and children. “We aim to support all women,” Birgül Harman said.
