The Women’s Committee under the Hesekê Economy Directorate has developed several projects to develop women’s economy. With projects on agriculture, husbandry, kitchens, clothing and co-operatives, women are leading the region’s economy.
The committee has opened a dairy farm in Hesekê’s El Silêymaniyê village. 11 women have come together to build the farm which has been active since September 1. Both women’s economy and animal husbandry in the region will be developed further in the region. One of the project partners, a woman named Duha Mihemed, said the project is important for the spirit of partnership and to prevent commercial fraud.
The Inanna Kitchen opened in the El Kelase Village of Hesekê, and plays an important role in the development of women’s economy. Women who have partnered up in the kitchen are preparing food for the winter and sell for well below market prices. The kitchen also prepares daily meals. One of the kitchen’s partners, Zêneb Umer, said they are taking some of the burden off women’s shoulders. 8 women [also] came together in the El Nasre neighborhood and opened the Ishtar Women’s Bakery.
There have been efforts for agriculture as well. The committee has distributed most of the arable land in the region among 300 women. Women have started producing in these plots, and wells will be dug in the coming days.
The Women’s Committee has also set up generators along several city streets that provide power for 130 homes each.
Women’s Committee administrator Cewhera Mihemed said they are launching new projects to develop women’s economy in the region through co-operatives.
