The women are building an alternative to patriarchal society, rediscovering and reestablishing collectively our freedom in an ecological way, health becomes an inescapable topic.

Jinwar, the women’s village in Rojava, has announced that preparations have begun to develop and open the new healthcare project for women and children.

In a statement published by Jinwar, women said: “All along the history women took care about the health of their communities due to the closeness of our relation with nature and our role of caretakers in all societies. This knowledge as well as our role was taken away by religion and science. Men became the owners of this knowledge and the women were relegated to a mere object of study.”

Jinwar women added that “nowadays, most of the women are alienated from their bodies and we suffer all kinds of health problems, many of them closely related to the social dynamics of oppression. The roots of this oppression are deeply embedded in our history, it’s been like this for thousands of years and until today it is widely accepted in our society.”

In a place like Jinwar, they underlined, the women are “building an alternative to patriarchal society, rediscovering and reestablishing collectively our freedom in an ecological way, health becomes an inescapable topic.”

To be “healthy”, they said, “is to feel physically, mentally and emotionally well in relation with the society where you live. So our health is also a consequence of the way our society works, of our understanding of love and life and our values. The healthier the environment and the way of living and how the children grow up, the healthier society will be.”

The project of Şifajin Health Center aims at combining “conventional medical care with natural medicine, opening the project also to educations and discussions in order to recover the knowledge and the understanding of health and life according to a society that has to be democratic, ecologic and in which women live as free women.”
