An attack has been carried out on members of the Autonomous Administration economic committee in Şêxmeqsûd in the north of Aleppo. Hemze Kobanê was killed and three other people were injured.
An attack on a vehicle belonging to the economic committee of the Autonomous Administration was carried out in the Kurdish district of Şêxmeqsûd in Aleppo. One person was killed and three others were injured, one seriously. According to initial information from security forces, an explosive device detonated on the car. The scene of the crime was cordoned off and the local authorities have launched an investigation into an “act of terrorism”.
The explosion occurred on Friday afternoon in the Şiqeyêf district north of Şêxmeqsûd. The team from the Economic Committee of the Joint People’s Council in the autonomously administered districts of Şêxmeqsûd and neighbouring Eşrefiyê had gone out to assess the buildings affected by the 2 earthquakes in the Turkish-Syrian border region on 6 February.
The People’s Council of the two self-governing districts blames the Turkish secret service MIT for the attack. According to the information, the dead man is Hemze Kobanê, a member of the Economic Committee.
In a statement issued after the attack, the People’s Council points out that despite the earthquake, Turkey continues to attack the civilian population and civilian institutions and that there is a strict embargo against the districts of Şêxmeqsûd and Eşrefiyê. Nevertheless, the Autonomous Administration authorities and in particular the economic committee reacted immediately after the earthquake and helped those affected.
Regarding Friday’s attack, the People’s Council said: “Our companion Hemze Kobanê, member of the Economic Committee, was attacked by a group belonging to MIT with a car bomb. Hemze Kobanê worked day and night for the population and provided for their needs under the most difficult circumstances. Our comrade has joined the caravan of the martyrs. Three other people were injured in the attack, one of them seriously.”
The People’s Council condemned the Turkish state for the attack and said that it was aimed at the population of the self-governing districts of Şêxmeqsûd and Eşrefiyê.
Turkey has been attacking the autonomous areas of northern and eastern Syria for years, in violation of international law. The attacks are aimed specifically at representatives of the Autonomous Administration structures, members of defense organizations and the civilian population. On Wednesday, a civilian was killed in a Turkish drone attack in Qamishlo.
