Mardin’s (Mêrdîn) pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party-led municipality has inaugurated Coffee JIN, a café exclusively staffed by women, aiming to promote women’s participation in social life. The initiative is part of a broader effort to boost women’s employment and create supportive spaces for women in the city.

Mardin’s (Mêrdîn) pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party-led metropolitan municipality has launched a new initiative to support women. The newly opened café, Coffee JIN, is exclusively staffed by women, with a mission to increase women’s participation in social life. Located in the historic Artuklu district, the café offers a welcoming atmosphere for women across the city.

Mardin Metropolitan Co-Mayor Devrim Demir emphasised the significance of women-focused policies during the café’s inauguration. “Coffee JIN is a space where women are employed and their labour is made visible. We are committed to promoting women’s employment and participation in social life through our model of communal municipal governance,” Demir stated.

She further elaborated that Coffee JIN would provide affordable, high-quality coffee, ensuring that all citizens, especially women, have access to an inclusive and economical space. “Just like our ‘people’s restaurants’, we aim to offer high-quality services at prices that suit everyone’s budget. Coffee JIN will be a valuable asset to the women of Mardin, as well as to visitors from across the country.”

After the speeches, the café was officially opened by Co-Mayor Demir, along with DEM Party MP Saliha Aydeniz, and local leaders Mehtap Çınar and Münevver Ölker. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Demir toured the facility, engaging with both staff and visitors. The event concluded with a mini concert by the MA Music group.

“Coffee JIN is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00, located near Mardin Museum,” Mardin metropolitan municipality said. “The municipality invited all women to visit, describing the café as a warm, welcoming space where the historic architecture of Mardin meets the vibrant energy of women’s solidarity.”
