This Arab family has escaped a war to take refuge in the Kurdish area of Syria. The regional government has given them work. The “Ministry of the Economy” of Jazira Canton [Kantona Cizîrê / Cezîre] tries to ameliorate the agricultural economy in a way that provides work and a stable source of income to farmers, while at the same time guaranteeing a sufficient supply of food to the region. In the long term, the goal is to reach self-sufficiency in terms of food. To achieve this, experiments are carried out. For example, with vegetable cultivation in greenhouses or with different types of organisation in the cooperatives. The first steps of this milk cooperative with 250 heads of cattle have been promising. Two Arab families live and work in it, assisted by local volunteers, having fled the conflicts in Deir-ez-Zor.
