#Urgent_Call from the Administration of #Tishreen_Dam to the Iraqi Government and Authorities Concerned with Water Security

We issue this urgent appeal to the Iraqi government and all entities responsible for water security in Iraq to take immediate action in light of the grave threats facing the Tishreen Dam on the Euphrates River in Syria. The dam is under continuous bombardment, placing it on the verge of collapse. This poses an imminent disaster that goes beyond Syrian borders, directly threatening Iraq.
Anticipated Consequences of the Tishreen Dam’s Destruction:
- The collapse of bridges, roads, power, and water lines in Syria, further complicating the region’s humanitarian crisis.
- The destruction of irrigation projects and secondary dams connected to the Euphrates River from Syria to Iraq.
- Massive flood waves that could reach other dams, such as the Euphrates (Tabqa) Dam and the Baath Dam, escalating the catastrophe.
- Direct impact on major Syrian cities and towns, including Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.
- The disaster extending to Iraq, where rising water levels in the Euphrates River could flood vast areas, endangering lives and infrastructure.
Our Urgent Demands:
- Immediate engagement with international parties to halt any military action targeting the dam.
- Urgent regional and international coordination to ensure the protection of dams along the Euphrates River, including the Tishreen Dam.
- Taking necessary measures to prevent the disaster’s impact from reaching Iraq.
